Leftie Press, initiated and run by Miru Bahc, who expands her practice on books and printed matters, stands as a project itself and studio, based in Seoul, South Korea. With continuous questions of what a book is and what a book can turn into, Bahc explores different dimensions and structures of a book, including its form, pages, surfaces, textures, texts, colors, and layouts. She experiments this medium to engender it into potent gestures, langauges, archive/archival visualization, and materialized installations in relation to the notion of space. Books and printed practices created at Leftie Press are both trials and proposals to alternative concepts of books as a form of art and a material.
레프티프레스는 책과 인쇄 매체에 대한 연구와 실천을 확장해보는 미술 작가 박미루의 프로젝트이자 스튜디오다. 서울을 기반으로 한다. 책이란 무엇인지, 그리고 책은 무엇이 될 수 있는지에 대한 지속적인 질문을 던지며 책의 형태와 페이지, 표면, 질감, 텍스트, 색상, 레이아웃을 포함한 다양한 차원과 구조를 탐구한다. 더불어, 책을 어떠한 제스처, 언어, 아카이브의 시각화, 그리고 공간의 개념과 연관된 물질화된 설치로 변모시키는 작업을 진행해본다. 박미루 작가 본인의 작업 뿐만아니라 다양한 작가들과 협업도 하고 있다. 레프티프레스에서 제작된 책과 인쇄 매체는 예술적 형식이자 물질로서 책에 대한 대안적인 개념을 제안하는 실험적 시도다.
