Tenderhands Korean ver. Volume 1. #1-100 is a collaborative publishing project between Miru Bahc and Ivetta Sun Young Kang, interdisciplinary artist in Toronto. As the pandemic swept across the globe, the artists imagined ways to relieve the anxieties of the hands and body through poetic and physical means.
The recognition of the hand—a part of the body constantly exposed to the outside world, carrying remnants of emotion and trauma—evolved into a multi-angled exploration of our physical characteristics.
The instructions within the book prompt readers to re-examine and question their own hands, the hands of loved ones, and the hands of strangers. Furthermore, by following instructions that encourage direct movement, readers and audiences are invited to expand these unstable acts—navigating between the private and public body—into a biopolitical perspective.
The work has been presented in various forms, including participatory performances, installations, performance videos, self-published DIY artist books, and the edition Tenderhands Volume 1. #1-100 published with Leftie press, which is run
by Bahc
